The phrase "let go" here means to release one's grip of something. "Let it go" can also be used to tell someone to release their hold on something, however, "let go" is not a contraction of "let it go". "Let it go" is simply just a reordering of a sentence as it puts the noun "it" in between "let" and "go". In a sentence with "let go", the noun is either at the end of "let go" or in the middle of "let" and "go". The phrase "let it go" can also be used to tell someone not to worry about something. Ex: Let go of the ladder, you're almost on the ground. Ex: Give me the ball. Let it go! Ex: Just let it go. No use in holding a grudge.
