The words "nerd" and "geek" are often used interchangeably, however, they do not have exactly the same meaning. A "nerd" usually refers to someone who enjoys obtaining intellectual knowledge and is very studious and bright academically. A "geek" on the other hand refers to someone who is passionate or enthusiastic about a particular field, however, this does not have to be an academic field but can be towards a particular hobby. The nuance of "geek" is often used in relation to people who are very savvy with technology. Ex: He is a technology geek. Ex: She's a nerd who enjoys studying.
