What is the difference between "safe" and "secure"?

"Safe" means that you are protected from harm; you are not in any danger. "Secure" has a couple of meanings. "Secure" means that something is fastened tightly so it doesn't come loose. It can also mean that a place is difficult to escape from. And it can also mean that something is likely to continue and not be lost or discontinued, such as a job. Here are examples with "safe" being used. Ex: She feels safe with him. Ex: I don't feel safe in this old vehicle. Ex: It's important to remain safe when dealing with harsh chemicals. Here are examples with "secure" being used. Ex: We need to secure the ladder before you climb on it. Ex: Her job is secured through the union. Ex: The bank is so secure that no one can break in.
