Does the meaning change if I say "grab only things"?

No. Not at all. Adding "only" would actually add emphasis to the fact that we want useful things and nothing else. I think it would enhance the sentence. Ex: You and your sister can come. Ex: Only you and your sister can come. Ex: I had a sandwich for lunch. Ex: I only had a sandwich for lunch.
