What does “go political” mean?

teacher

Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

To "go political" means to take an active interest, and be engaged and involved in things related to politics. In this case it is being used as a joke because the puppet is making a joke about the president. It's not a serious political statement. Ex: My mom has gone political in the lead up to the election. Ex: I never thought my brother would go political, but I guess university has really changed him.
