"Just so I'd have somewhere to go that wasn't home" can be understood as "just so that I would have somewhere to go that wasn't home." The "just" has a function similar to "simply" or "only," and combined with "so" to mean "simply so [that]." Ex: I go to McDonald's just so I can eat their french fries. Ex: My sister traveled all the way to England just so she could attend One Direction's concert.
