In this context, to "take off" means to succeed or do really well. In other cases, take off can be used to describe the departure of things (like the taking off of planes), or the removal of something, such as the taking off of clothing. Ex: I didn't expect the cafe to do well because they didn't do much marketing. But it's really taking off! Ex: The company was shocked by how well the business took off. Ex: The plane is set to take off at 1 PM.
