"Doesn't/won't hurt to try" is an informal expression frequently used to express the idea that everything is worth attempting or trying, that you don't lose anything from putting in effort. In other words, that there may be an advantage to be gained from attempting something. "Doesn't/won't hurt to" thus means that there is no harm in doing [x] action. Ex: It doesn't hurt to start studying earlier. => There is no harm in starting to study earlier. Ex: It won't hurt to try. The worst thing that could happen is that you fail.
