What is the difference between "I'm so sorry" and "I'm real sorry"?

There isn't a significant difference between the two. Both "so" and "real" are used to emphasize "being sorry," so you can understand them as having similar levels of emphasis. Ex: Don't go home yet. Mom's real mad about something. Ex: I'm so tired from my hiking trip today.
