In what situation can I shorten another to ’nother? Are there any rules or can I shorten it anytime in casual conversation as long as it's understood?

The term "'nother" originally comes from "another", however, it is used differently than "another". "'Nother" is usually used to replace "other" instead of "another". It is normally used together with the expression "whole 'nother" to express that something is completely different. This word is very informal and not normally used in everyday conversation unless used for comedy. Ex: I like things clean but my roommate takes clean to a whole 'nother level.
