Great question! The origin story of the "Gatorade" drink is actually quite interesting. In the 1960s, researchers created a carbohydrate-electrolyte drink to help the football team of the University of Florida, "the Gators," overcome heat-related illnesses and other symptoms caused by sweating and exercise. Florida is a state known for alligators and the University of Florida's football team's name was inspired by that. Thus, it made sense for the drink to also follow this naming trend. That is how it eventually become the "Gatorade" that is famous around the world today.
