Can I replace "for a while" with "awhile"?

Yes you can! The sentence would still have the same meaning. Keep in mind, "for a while" means a short period of time. "Awhile" means a period of time. Even though these have slightly different meanings, they are used fairly interchangeable. Ex: 예: I'm going to be gone for a while. = I'm going to be gone awhile. Ex: If you plan to stay a while, we plan to watch a movie. = If you plan to stay for awhile, we plan to watch a movie.
