What does "spiked" mean in this sentence? I thought the example of spiked shoes, but it seems different here.

"Spiked" in this sentence means "drugged." Castro's cigars were drugged with toxins that were meant to kill him. If he were to smoke the cigar spiked with toxins, the toxins would have entered his body, killing him in the process. You will sometimes hear that someone's drink was "spiked." This means that a drug or toxin, such as Rohpynol, was put into it that could harm or affect the person that drinks it. "Spiked" can also sometimes mean to put alcohol into a non-alcoholic drink. However, this video is referring to toxic drugs, not alcohol. Ex: She was worried someone had spiked her drink. Ex: He was arrested for spiking the brownies with drugs.
