An "odyssey" is a long journey which usually includes a quest to search and discover something. This word is very rarely used today, but it is known by English speakers because of the famous book called "The Odyssey", which tells the tale of a hero in ancient Greece embarking on a long journey during the Trojan war. Similar words to "odyssey" that are more commonly used today are "journey", "adventure", "trek", "trip", and "voyage". However, "voyage" usually only describes travel by sea or space.
