In this context, "focus" has been used to mean "pay attention." Thus, it has the same meaning as the verb "concentrate" and can be used interchangeably. Ex: Pay attention in class. You need to focus on the lesson. Ex: I have a few students who don't concentrate in class. Ex: If you don't pay attention in school, you will fail your exams.
