Is the expression "There is this—" generally used? Or it is not a fixed expression?
This is a common grammatical pattern. "There is this x/there's this" is a more casual way of expressing "there is a x." Ex. There's a great bakery that opened up recently. -> There's this great bakery that opened up recently. Ex. There's this weird smell in the kitchen.
