This is just speculation, but I would say that this expression means to be similar to something else. She is saying that the phrase "don't tempt me" is similar to saying "don't eat that piece of cake." It's not very common to use "linear" in the same context as she used it. We would usually just say, "Don't tempt me is like saying 'don't eat that piece of cake.'"
