A landfill is a place where refuse and other waste is disposed of. Usually, this waste material will be buried and covered with soil, to ensure that land can continue to be used (hence "land" + "fill"). Landfills are also sometimes called rubbish dumps or trash dumps. Ex: A lot of trash in North America is transported to landfills in China. Ex: Landfills are not the best solution for the world's trash problem.
