A "heart-to-heart" means an emotional conversation between two or more people; an intimate and personal conversation. Here, El had had an emotional conversation, or heart-to-heart, with her dad. Ex: I was thinking of dropping out of college, but my brother had a heart-to-heart with me, and I feel better now. Ex: We spoke heart-to-heart, and now I feel closer to her.
