What's the main difference between "security" and "safety"?

They are quite similar! The difference is that "safety" regards the well-being of people or things when they are protected and "safe" from danger. Whereas "security" means that if something is "secure", then there should be no danger or threat. In relation to tech and social media, some policies create "safety" for users in monitoring what content is shared and how people treat each other online. Things like virus protection, coding, and securing information mean that there is a "security" system in place. Ex: What's the security system like in your building? I'm concerned for your safety. Ex: I heard there was a fire! Are you safe? Are you okay? Ex: The celebrity has maximum security around his house. No one can get in.
