I've often heard the "study hall" in American TV shows, but what does it really mean? And, could you please tell me some examples that use the word "hall"?

A study hall is simply a room (hall) within a school that is available for private study during the school day. It might be a designated room that is open for study at all times, or a room set aside for a certain time of day for study. Other education-related words using the word hall include: assembly hall, where students attend meetings or assemblies, and mess hall, where students gather to eat. Ex: We are having an assembly at 9 AM in the assembly hall. Ex: Lunch service begins at 12 PM in the mess hall.
