Why "where" is necessary in here? Can I skip it?

In this case "where" is being used as a conjunction and if it were removed from the sentence then the sentence would be grammatically incorrect. We use "where" as a conjunction when referring to a particular stage in a process or activity. In this clip it is used to explain the activity of the "biopsy". Ex: You reach a point in any project where you just want to get the thing finished. Ex: I've reached the stage where I just don't care any more.
