Here, it does! But there might not always be a light to "turn on." So the more general meaning would be to "provide or make light" to "illuminate" something. It can also mean to cause something to burn or to ignite something. Ex: We lit the room with candles. Ex: Let's light the room with a bunch of lamps. Ex: She'll light the fire. => ignite
