While it might sound heavy and formal, it is the best option in most situations. In some cases the word "show", which is simpler, can be used but not everywhere. Other synonyms for reveal are: uncover, expose, unmask, unveil, etc. Ex: In the movie, Spiderman didn't like to reveal his identity. =>words like "expose" and "uncover" could also be used here.
