So, could I consider a "bog" a synonym of a "swamp?"

They look quite similar, but they are actually a little different! Swamps have muddy soil, while bogs have peat (brown matter formed by decomposing dead plants). Swamps support trees and many other wildlife. Meanwhile, bogs support plants and animals who can adapt to bog water, which has few nutrients and acidic waters. Ex: I often find a lot of insectivorous plants in bogs. Ex: Be careful when you go near the swamp. You might sink in the mud.
