"Silver lining" means that there's a good thing from a bad or unpleasant situation. Something negative might have something positive come from it. The term itself comes from when the sun appears behind a cloud, and it seems like it has a silver line around it. Ex: The silver lining of being suspended was getting to rest. Ex: We're getting a bunch of bad press after the scandal, but the silver lining is that it's still press and sales are increasing.
