Seems like "make a living" means something. Cuz it doesn't make sense when being translated literally. What's that mean?

To "make a living" means to earn money, usually with the intention to pay for one's living expenses such as a house, food, transport, and so on! Ex: You can make a good living as an accountant these days. => you can earn a lot of money Ex: In the beginning, it can be hard to make a living as a freelancer.
