Is "soft drink" different from "soda"? I heard people call coke as a soda.

Yes, you can basically think of "soft drinks" as being sodas, pop, or carbonated drinks. Hard drinks (hard liquor) would be drinks with alcohol in them. Ex: Do you want a soft drink with your burger? Ex: I'm swearing off soft drinks because they're too sugary.
