A "subway car" is the passenger compartment of a train. It's the individual passenger units that make up the whole train. So usually, there are eight to ten subway cars on one train that passengers can go into. Ex: That subway car was full, so I sat in the next one. Ex: There was a man in the subway car I was in with really nice shoes.
