"Go on" is quite different from "take on!" Here, "go on" means to physically place yourself, someone, or someone on to something. It can also mean to continue or proceed, to talk at great length, or to happen. Ex: Let's go on the bridge. Ex: Go on, tell us what happened next. Ex: John wouldn't stop going on about the party. Ex: The fight went on for a while.
