teacher

Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

The main difference is that "critique" means to analyze and assess something, whereas "criticize" means to indicate faults in a disapproving way. While "critiquing" could show negatives, it's more formal and usually has the goal of improving something or looking at it in a different way. "Criticizing" is less formal and isn't usually to fix or better something or someone. Ex: I read an essay recently on the critique of capitalism. Ex: My classmate keeps criticizing the way I dress. Ex: We'll critique your artwork in a moment.
