What does "direct + -bound" mean?

“[Direction]bound” means that the traffic is travelling or going in that direction. Thus, you can understand “westbound freeway” to mean that the freeway is for cars intending to travel westward. “Direct” in this context means that the direction is straightforward, without detours or turnarounds. Ex: Get in the northbound lane. Ex: I will drive on the southbound highway for an hour.
