What does "vindicate" mean? Can I only use this word in the context related to law or court?

"Vindicate" means to clear someone of blame or suspicion. Essentially, to prove that one is not guilty of doing something! It is mostly used in contexts related to law and court, but also to do with rules and regulations. It could be used outside of that context, but it would have a very dramatic tone to it. Ex: The school thought a student cheated, but he was vindicated yesterday. Ex: I wonder if they'll vindicate him in court next week.
