To "be caught up" in something means to be involved in something. It usually refers to a difficult or challenging situation. It can also mean that something has a lot of your attention. You can use it when you might be distracted by or fixed on something. You can also use it when referring to being in a situation you might not want to be in and may not necessarily involve you. Ex: I got caught up in a situation at work with a colleague of mine. There was a lot of drama, but I'm glad it's over now. Ex: I'm sorry. I got so caught up in fixing the problem that I forgot to ask how you are doing.
