Good question! When Spider-Man was first made, the creator of Spider-Man, Stan Lee, wanted people to easily distinguish the new superhero from Superman without any confusion since they both begin with an "s" and end with "man." So that's why he put a hyphen in the name "Spider-Man." It's just a style choice depending on the creator of the comic or superhero. Ex: Who is a better superhero: Spider-Man or Superman? Ex: I don't know why Stan Lee was obsessed with bugs for superheroes, like "Ant-Man" and "Spider-Man."
