In the informal context, to "get somewhere" means to arrive or be close to some place. Thus, we can understand "we must be getting close" in this video to mean that they must be physically close or close to arriving at the desired location. To "get close" can be meant in the literal and metaphorical sense, such as an upcoming date. Ex: We're getting close to the restaurant. The GPS says we'll arrive in five minutes.
