"Let go" is a common phrasal verb! It means to stop holding or to release one's grip of something or something. One can also let go of something non-physical, like a thought or emotion. And, when an employee is dismissed or fired, one can use the phrase "let go." Ex: She let go of the door handle, and the door slammed close because of the wind. Ex: Just let it go, Jane. The fight happened a long time ago. => thought or emotion Ex: That big company in town is letting go of quite a few employees, sadly.
