I thought "earn" means making money. How's it used in here?

In this case, to "earn" something means to be deserving of it. "She earned it" here means that she deserved her victory, as she put in a lot of hard work to achieve it. Ex: Enjoy your prize! You earned it. Ex: You didn't earn this award, so I can't give it to you.
