Isn't it too rude to call someone an "old man"? Can I call someone who is older than me an "old man"?

Yes, you are correct. "Old man" is only used in cases when you wish to offend someone or make a sarcastic remark against them, like in this video here. It can be used to describe someone, but you should not refer to them in person like that ("Sir" or "Mister" are more preferable). In some cases, "old man" is also used as a cheeky way to refer to one's father. Ex: The old man walked slowly down the road. Ex: My old man used to be a great soccer player.
