As a noun, and in this context, "con" is a trick or cheat to get what you want from someone. As a verb, it means to trick someone. "Con" is also short for convention and convict. Ex: She conned me out of five grand. I could never get the money back. => tricked to give the money Ex: There's a good con in the movie Ocean's 8, where Debbie Ocean pretends to be an art buyer to drive up the prices. Ex: He was a brilliant con artist. But soon after become a different kind of "con." A "convict."
