Does the word "trailer" for movies come from the vehicle's trailer?

Good guess, but that's not the case! Movie trailers are called trailers because they originally came after the movie, "trailing" (following) it. Thus, they came to be called trailers. Now, they are often shown before it and as promotional clips separate from the film itself. Ex: I saw a really cool movie trailer. Now I want to watch the movie. Ex: It's okay, we won't be late for the movie! They always show trailers for at least 10 minutes beforehand.
