I thought "wind" doesn't need the definite article "the", why does it need "the"?

"The" is often used when talking about the wind as a weather element. Similar to "the sun" or "the earth," we're talking about a specific element, and oftentimes about the wind on certain days or certain conditions, and not just wind in general, which is why the definite article "the" is used. If a descriptive word precedes wind, "a" is usually used. Ex: I find the wind very annoying. Ex: A gentle wind blew through the house. Ex: The wind is really strong today.
