Is "movie" same as "film"?

They're often used interchangeably and regarded as the same thing, yes! I'd say there are ever so slight differences. A "film" usually encaptures a much bigger idea or theme and can be regarded as more artistic than a "movie." Whereas a "movie" is catered to the audience, giving them exactly what they want. There also seems to be a difference between who uses which one. People who make movies or films often call them "films," whereas consumers and viewers typically call them "movies." But you could safely use either one. Ex: I love that film! = I love that movie! Ex: We're busy making a film based on a comic book. Ex: I enjoy watching movies based on comic books.
