student asking question

I've heard that the title of nobility can be varied by gender (like duke & duchess or baron and baroness). But, does the word "lord" both refer to male and female? Or is there a specific term of "lord" for female aristocrats?

In regards to this, the feminine term for "Lord" is simply "Lady". However please note that the term "Lord" in the Houses of Lord is not an aristocratic title. It is more like a job title. So, while some people in the House of Lords may have a title seperately (like Baroness or Lady or Duke) that is not what being in the House of Lords means. For example the role of Lords Spiritual in the House of Lords is held by a woman but is still called Lords Spiritual.
