I've heard that there's a similar expression called "Willkommen" in German, which also means "Welcome." How could English and German have a similar pattern in their languages?

Yes, many languages in Europe may have words that look and sound similar because there is a certain amount of relation between them. For example, the Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Romanian) are all derived from Vulgar Latin and share many similarities in terms of vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. In the case of English and German, they are both Western Germanic languages, and thus share many similarities. Good job for noticing that "welcome" and "willkommen" sound quite similar! Indeed, this is because they are part of the same language family.
