When I make a public speech in English, I'm not sure if I start with "hi" or "hello", which one's more appropriate in there's any difference?

"Hello" is a bit more formal in tone, so it's a bit more appropriate for public speeches. Of course, you can tailor your greeting based on the occasion and level of formality of the event (for more casual speeches, it's okay to use more casual words). Ex: Hello everyone, thank you for coming today. Ex: Good afternoon, everyone. I welcome you all to our event today.
