"A myriad of" means a large number or countless amount of something! It can be used in both formal writing and casual conversation. I'd say it's not commonly heard in casual conversation, but it would sound natural. Ex: There was a whole myriad of people at the beach today. Ex: We have a myriad of problems at the company. We're all going to be working overtime this week. Ex: Reports say that a myriad of birds will begin their migration next week.
