"Family" refers to a group of related individuals living together, usually a parent(s) and their children. This is called immediate family (i.e. father, mother, siblings). Extended family refers to other members outside the immediate family, such as one's grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and so on. A related term is "clan," which also refers to a family but includes other families related through marriage. Thus, a clan usually consists of a much larger group than a family. Lastly, "house" in the traditional sense simply refers to a home or dwelling. In informal contexts, "[name]'s house" can also be refer to that person's family. Ex: My family consists of my parents and brother. Ex: Our extended clan includes several other families that are related by marriage. Ex: Do you want to visit my house? We're having steak for dinner!
