Would it sound awkward if I say a "marriage" instead of a "wedding" in this context?

Weddings refer to the day that one holds a celebration for a new marriage, so "marriage day" is not appropriate day. This is especially so because "marriage" is used to refer to the entire period that a couple is married, whereas "wedding" refers to the ceremony day only. Ex: I'm so excited to see all my friends and family on my wedding day. Ex: My grandparents' marriage has lasted over 60 years.
