A "pledge" is a promise or commitment to do something. Pledge will generally be used in formal situations in which a person or organization makes a promise to do something, like promise loyalty, promise donations, etc. Ex: The conference ended with a joint pledge to limit pollution. Ex: Thousands of people made pledges to the charity campaign.
